Pray For Surf

A dedication to Calm Eye Images:

I want to take a moment to acknowledge my beloved stepfather, Enrique. His passion for wave photography inspired me. I wanted to capture my world through my eyes, the way he captured his world so beautifully.

A few years ago, him and my mom took me out to one of my favorite local trails. We ran into a pair of sandhill cranes that had no fear of us as they eloquently walked past, taking their time to stop and graze. Being in the right place at the right time, I snapped photos until the photography bug had fully infected me. That year for my birthday, Enrique got me a photography class and I started to practice more and more on the blue jays in my backyard and soon found a whole new way to look at life through the beauty of birds. Behind most of my birding adventures, he was there; even if it meant wading through buggy swamps or standing in the Miami sun for hours. When we met Clyde Butcher together, we heard stories about how important patience was when waiting for the perfect shot. Throughout our countless adventures, I grew to understand Enrique’s calm demeanor so much more and learned a lot about the art of patience through him. As an avid surfer as well, he knew how to wait for the perfect wave and it is shown beautifully in all of his work. Every shutter-click of mine is an extension of the lessons he taught me through knowledge and encouragement.

Enrique left behind so much, but the photography he left behind embraces his beautiful look at the world through his eyes.

Surf in Peace.
