Ask and You Sh-OWl Receive

I woke up this morning to the realization that the rain ruined my original plans for the day, so I reset my goal to see burrowing owls. A little part of me felt like I was owed a burrowing owl in Boca, but that’s not what the weather had in mind. I did a bit of research and headed to Brian Piccolo Park. I arrived with my rain gear and prayed I timed this out well enough to accomplish my goal in-between rain showers. The first half mile I saw no signs of owls but continued on as more clouds blew in. Soon, I was walking past half a dozen marked off burrows in the final part of the loop around the baseball fields and tennis courts. The first nest was a bust, the second was also a bust, but by the third nest one burrowing owl was out and observing me as I walked up. As the wind started to pick up, I headed back towards the final quarter mile of the loop and saw one more nest with these two little owls sitting on top. I had come with high hopes and expectations and these grumpy little faces fulfilled them all!
